"...this is not a big deal for the sake of winning a title, but it is a big deal for the sake of letting people know that there is a place in town that welcomes the “least of these” for real. As a person who searched for this place for years, I can promise you, it is a really damn big deal."
Tamara Perry-Lunardo
We trust the Bible as it points us to Jesus, and we gather around a set of shared values seen within the Post Evangelical Collective (of which we are a part). Outside of those, you’ll probably find a diversity of perspectives within our community. (We actually think that diversity is a good thing.) If you’re wondering what our pastor believes on any number of questions, the best way to explore that is to listen to the teachings on our YouTube page. Or better yet, join us in person for a gathering.
We are open, loving, and inclusive. We also affirm that no matter your age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, socio-economic background, or belief, you are welcome here, and celebrated just the way you are. Shift is affirming of the LGBTQ+ community, and you will never find a ceiling or barrier here. We believe it is our responsibility (and privilege) to clear the way for all people to come to church. In a sea of churches that discriminate, or cloud their beliefs in confusing language, we strive for love and clarity.
Our culture has some complicated feelings about money. Those in charge of churches, businesses, and the government seem to consistently disappoint us in regards to financial ethics. We want to make it easy on you by being totally honest about our finances and where our money goes.
For too long, churches have placed attendance as the marker of spiritual maturity and growth. We have done this to the detriment of our communities and our people. We want people engaged in loving their neighbors and their families. We encourage all of our people to gather regularly but not to the point of exhaustion. We regularly schedule online only Sundays so that people can enjoy the whole weekend guilt free.
For so many of us questioners, the current church system hasn't and doesn't work. We have been told to be quiet, to stop asking so many questions or that we should find a new church. We are a community that encourages searching, that wants to learn how to ask better questions and loves tearing down walls of separation. For all of you that have been told that you can't or don't belong...we are a church for the rest of us.
